At TAYLOR DECOYS we feel that the knowledge of every hunter or non-hunter has merit. That's why we've created this TIPS section. In this section, you'll find tips and hunts that can be used by the newest "greenwing" to the most experienced "oldsquaw". I want to hear from you and each month I will pick a tip of the month. The person that submits the tip I choose will receive a gift certificate towards a purchase from TAYLOR DECOYS. So start sending in those tips, hints, recipes and techniques!
O
n blue bird days I use a jerkcord to make ripples in my decoy spread I find Taylor Decoys work best for this. You need a heavy weight, a bungee cord, two or three decoys and about 50yards of line. Tie the bungee cord to weight then to your dekes and then to your line. Set this in the center of your decoy spead and when you pull the cord your decoys come to life. This is deadly on ducks - just make sure you bring lots of shells!

For the goldeneye hunters, use the ultra magnum decoys for more effective hunts. The huge decoys can be seen from far away and sucks them right in for a look into your spread.

T
o create a great effect for feeding ducks, add a weight to the front of one of your cork decoys to pull the front half of the decoy slightly in the water. When the water ripples it will make the decoy bob up and down making the appearance of a duck getting food from under the surface. It makes more movement in your decoys which is a great way to fool the wariest fowl.

f you do a lot of hunting investing in a vaccum sealer is well worth the money. This allows you to package all of your meat for the freezer and cuts down on waste. Without freezer burn you can be eating fresh fowl all summer long!
Another great advantage to a vaccum sealer is keeping a "dry pack" in your boat or hunting rig. Vaccum seal a dry change of clothes, extra spark plugs, matches or anything else you want to stay dry in all conditions. Store it in your boat and forget about it. It'll come in handy one day and may just save your life!! Wednesday, June 12, 2002

he cheapest, easiest, most effective thing you can do to improve your chances while duck hunting is to cover your face! Use a camo mask, camo netting, or whatever.

H
ere is a tip for all of you diver hunters. I took this from some goose hunters and know of some other diver hunters that do it as well. Flagging! I have two flags in my layout boat. On is white and the other is black. Both are cloth and measure 16 inches long by 10 inches wide. They are stapled to a 24 inch dowel. When there are birds in sight but they are not too interested, snap the flag(s) up and down from the water's surface. This imitates birds landing or flapping their wings on the water. Lots of times it will get the birds to turn on a dime and start piling in!!!
